The word AkoJo was conceived quite accidentally, it is a two part
acronym (Ako + Jo). In the Philippines all foreign men are referred
to as Jo and Ako is Tagalog for Me, so AkoJo literally means 'Me Jo'.
My name is actually not Jo, though I have now become conditioned to
answer to Jo.I am an Australian man, married to a beautiful and sexy
Filipina woman, 12 years younger than I am. We met on a dating site
called pretty pinays and have been inseparable ever since.
Anyway, when I first arrived here in the Philippines, everywhere
I went I was greeted with shouts of 'Hey Jo', at first I didn't realise
they were talking to me, but as the weeks and months went by,
I became accustomed to it and even expected it.
So when my beautiful Filipina wife and I decided to write this site,
we tossed around many ideas for a suitable and unique site name, HeyJo was the obvious choice,
but that domain name had already been consumed. When we thought of AkoJo
it just seemed to fit, so we checked the availablity of the domain
name and it was available, so we registered it.
That's it, that's what AkoJo means and how it came into fruition.
Incidentally I believe that if you research on the net, you will find
that akojo is also an Afikaan word meaning 'needy' or 'without supplies'
Ping is an old MSDOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) command, primarily used to test if a web site is up and responsive to communication.
So we adopted the name Ping for our messaging procedures, so members could ping another member and see if they are available and responsive to communication.
Use the ping page send a private message to other akojo.com members, the recipient will be notified of any unread messages next time they sign in.
We just thought it was a nice play on words, you can
Ping a Pinoy or
Ping a Filipina, it's got a nice ring to it, so we used it.
If you get any problems with this feature, or any other features at akojo.com just
Ping ate_nimda our devoted and esteemed staff member, who will attend to your concerns with prompt efficiency.
